I've often read the comparisons between childbirth and ideas.
My two favorite are that a really good idea has to come from the merging of two separate parents, both bringing something to the table and then together they make this brand new thing. The other is that ideas are like a pregnancy and it takes a long time and it's painful and then you birth something new.
I think both of those are good, but both are too focused on the baby.
When a woman is pregnant with a baby it is verging on unbelievable the things she has to go through. She gains 30% body weight in a very short period of time. Her body literally contorts to hold this baby. She creates more hormones in the nine months of pregnancy than she will produce in the entire rest of her life, combined!
We think about the baby so much that we forget that in the process we are the mother. We are the ones waking up in the morning and vomiting. We are the ones that have to let our bodies be wrecked by this idea while it just does it's thing. We are the ones that have to change how we eat, what vitamins we consume and what coffee and alcohol we don't.
Most women who have abortions don't do it because they don't want children, there is always adoption. No, they have an abortion because they know what that baby will do to them over the next nine months. It will wreck them.
Be careful about how romantic you get about what it takes to bring an idea to fruition. Bringing an idea to life will wreck you, but creation is why we resemble God.
